The Yavne Zion Congregation – known as The Marlee Shul – is located at 788 Marlee Avenue, just south of Lawrence Ave West, in Toronto, ON. The Shul is home to many young professional families, and is growing steadily.
The Shul was founded as the Yavne Shul in the late 1800’s in downtown Toronto, and moved to its current location in 1963. As the Orthodox Jewish community began to move away from this area in the 80’s and 90’s, the Shul membership began to decline. In June 2005, Rabbi Yehuda Oppenheimer was hired as the Shul’s new Rabbi, and since then the Shul has been experiencing a tremendous rejuvenation. Approximately 50 young families have joined the Shul membership over this time, and a typical Shabbos davening now has close to 75 people in attendance.
